Tie Dye is a wonderful practice for embarking on a journey without knowing the answer and for trusting creative instincts rather than over-thinking perfect solutions. We will be teaching 4 different tyeing techniques to create fun patterns, how to dye with different colors, and more. It's amazing all the things we can make with rubber bands, good dyes & great vibes.
MORE DETAILS
In this workshop, we will cover: how to prep, tie, dye, and wash dyed items. No prep required. Come ready to dye.
SUPPLIES IN KIT: One-Step Tie Dye with Squirt bottles The “one-step” in these kit names refers to the missing step of needing to soak garments in a mixture of water and soda ash before dyeing, making these kits so easy to use. Just add water to the dry dye powder. Kit Includes: Squeeze bottles Rubber bands Rubber gloves Plastic table cover
SET UP You will need to set up a work area that is flat. We will be tying and folding our wet bundles on a table and then putting them into the trays to dye. You will need paper towels and a bag for trash nearby.
IMPORTANT Dye maintains its potency for only 48-72 hours. I recommend activating only the colors and amounts you plan on using in a given session to avoid wasting dye.
WHAT TO DYE Our kits come with tote bags, t-shirts socks. and bandanas. You can also grab something from your closet to upcycle. There is enough dye for several items. That is TOTALLY up to you! The one important requirement for anything you’re dyeing is that it’s a natural fiber: 100% cotton, silk, rayon, and wool are all great options. Acrylic / polyester fabrics won’t work.
TIE DYE PREP Prep is only step: dunk item(s) in water and ring out excess water. We will do this together during the workshop.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR WASHING AFTER WORKSHOP Wash out in cold water without opening bundle until water runs clear. Then open, and rinse more until water runs clear. Then put in washing machine with cold water, gentle cycle, with similar colors.
