Indigo Workshop Weekend

Shibori is a Japanese dyeing technique that involves folding, twisting or bunching cloth and binding it, then dyeing it in indigo. Our workshop on Saturday taught how to make Turkish towels with Shibori folding and dyeing methods. Our workshop on Sunday utilized Indigo resist methods and stencils to create modern tabletop linens. We created our own patterns on provided fabric, dye the fabric in indigo vats, and had a chance to connect with other creatives in a sunny backyard.

The days were filled with enjoyable crafting, delicious food and good conversation. The event started around noon with a gathering around the patio table, enjoying an alfresco meal. Lunch was followed by the Shibori lesson to review the process, review samples and showcase methods. We learned how to use clamp and resist methods to create beautiful geometric home textiles. The workshop ended with coffee, dessert and maybe even roasting smores around the firepit. Nibbles and drinks are provided through the day.

ITINERARY

The Craft
We will be making (1) Turkish towel made of 100% cotton.

The Craving
The menu is still in the works, but we are playing with the idea of offering a Stumptown pour over coffee bar with a Matcha Pound Cake with Almond Glaze, in addition to appetizers and light bites which will include some homemade dips (think: Carrot, Walnut & Red Lentil Hummus), avo toasts with delicious toppings, along with a crisp, colorful salad, and more treats.

The Deets
We will be crafting in a cozy, awesome indoor/outdoor space in Venice Beach, so dress in layers and make sure it's something you don't mind getting a little indigo on.
